Saxophone meets drums meets bass – and with all the force. In long, often flowing pieces, Thomas Borgmann, Vinicius Cajado and Joe Hertenstein create a music that moves back and forth between lyrically peaceful and ecstatic phases, between spacious and dense playing.

Thomas Borgmann founder of the quartet “Ruf Der Heimat”, “is actually a conservative. He belongs to the narrow section of a descendant generation that preserves the heritage of those who, inspired by Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry and others, demanded and pushed through radical turns in jazz in the sixties and are far from having reached the end of this attitude.”(Eric Mandel).

His many years of trio work with Wilber Morris & Denis Charles and (after Charles’ death) Reggie Nicholson ‘BMN’, as well as his various collaborations with musicians such as Borah Bergman, William Parker, Peter Brötzmann, Roy Campbell, Thurston Moore and many others have been extensively documented on CD’s & LP’s and presented at numerous international festivals. Thomas currently also works with Willi Kellers in the Trio Boom Box and Keys & Screws.

Vinicius Cajado is a musician with no boundaries between styles. Raised in São Paulo, Brasil, his unique approach to the bass led him to win a jazz performance award with additional honors of most creative and unique playing at the International Society of Bassists competition (Prague, Czech Republic). His debut solo record for double bass “Monu” was nominated as “Best of the year 2021” by “The New York City Jazz Record”. Vinicius has performed in many festivals and renowned venues including Saalfelden Jazz Festival, Lincoln Center NYC, Musikverein Vienna, The Kitchen NYC, just to name a few. He played the Artacts Festival 2023 in Duo with Joelle Leandre.

Joe Hertenstein is a German jazz drummer. He first studied music in Munich, Rotterdam, Berlin and Cologne. In 2007, he moved to New York City, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in the jazz studies program at Queens College. He has played with musicians such as Kenny Werner, Chris Potter, Tristan Honsinger, Mat Maneri and Karl Berger, among others. He just finished the third recording in Trio Remedy with Joe Fonda & Thomas Heberer. His Trio with Greg Cohen & Michael Moore was nominated as “Best live album of the year 2022” by “The New York City Jazz Record”.
